Summers in New Hampshire seem to be getting hotter and hotter, or maybe I’m just getting less heat tolerant. And, since we don’t have a pool, we have to get creative with how to cool off.

Last summer, the summer of COVID, we needed some relief so we grabbed the inflatable tubes and headed north to the Pemigewasset River. We left Sam’s car the Blair Bridge in Campton where planned to get out of the river, and we left my car where we got into the river. I don’t remember exactly where we started, but we ended up on a 4 hour float.

When you float down a river for hours without a reasonable escape plan, you need to plan supplies accordingly. Number one – don’t forget the keys to the car at the other end! We brought along a couple of small dry bags for keys, phones, sunscreen, beverages and snacks.

We ended up doing this twice last summer because the kids enjoyed it so much. Sadly by late July the water level was too low to go again. It would have been more of a “walk” down the river rather than float.
