Our travels from Sedona, AZ to the Grand Canyon took us by Las Vegas, so we decided to stop and check it out since the kids and my mom had never been. To go from visiting National Parks to Las Vegas, Nevada was a pretty serious shock to the system. To say the kids were overwhelmed would be an understatement!
We stayed for two nights at the RV Park at Circus Circus, which I wouldn’t recommend. It’s a large parking lot with hook-ups and no shade which wasn’t great when the outside temp is 107. And their security and hospitality at the campground were seriously lacking. Thankfully the casino’s are air conditioned.
A highlight of Vegas for the kids was the Midway games at Circus Circus. They had every arcade and midway game you could imagine. They both won giant bouncy balls from a big grabber (not the best when you’re traveling via small RV).
They also enjoyed the aquarium at Mandalay Bay. They had a small touch tank where you could say hello to the resident sting rays and horseshoe crab. They had piranhas, lots of other less toothy fish and a big shark tank. The shark tank had a tunnel you could walk under which was pretty cool.
The biggest highlight of the trip was seeing Cirque Du Soleil “O” at the Bellagio. The stage was water with platforms in the water that could move up and down with the scenes. We could see the scuba divers in the bottom who must be there for safety for the performers. The acrobats performed on rings and ribbons 40-50 feet above the pool and then dove into the water. It was fun watching the kids reaction to the amazing acrobatics.
While the show really was amazing, I’m not sure we’d hit Vegas again if were out this way – it was pretty overwhelming for the kids. It’ll be a “one and done” for them – at least while they’re young. Who knows, maybe they’ll decide to come back when they’re adults!
