Another local gem we like to visit is the Andres Institute, the area’s largest outdoor sculpture park in Brookline, NH. They have over 100 outdoor sculptures and more than 10 miles of hiking trails on the 140 acre property. Fun fact – the property used to be a ski area.
It’s an unusual place to go for a walk. There are really big sculptures all throughout the woods, each one marked with a placard naming the artist and the home country.
Last year we visited in winter and crossed paths with many snowshoers and a few snowmobilers who were passing through. The sculptures looked really neat poking through the snow.
We’ve also gone in summer, with the dogs, and found it easier to navigate the trails. It’s a bit of a scavenger hunt to find the various pieces of art. The kids like that they can touch and sit on the sculptures. It certainly made it more interesting for them.
The property does have an incline – remember it was a ski area after all. There is a bit of a view from the top and a place to sit and take it all in. Pack a picnic or some snacks because you can easily spend a few hours here.
